PROJECT: New Residence in Wilton, CT
January 8,2004
Excavation began Tuesday and we're almost done digging for the footers. It's been freezing cold, but we have
a fabulous crew who is very devoted and we've all been out there every day.
A problem that we will need to solve is that while digging for the basement footer, we hit...water. We're considering
a few alternatives and will let you know the outcome. Meanwhile, here are some pictures of the model of the double-height
entry hall.

We've come quite a ways since my last entry. After hitting water, we decided to stop digging, do a full basement, and
start it all at the four foor dig that we had, thereby building the house upward rather than digging down further.
Mr. and Mrs. B are quite happy that they will have a full basement, and the fact that we're building upward
will put the house well above the ground, keeping the front door well out of reach of the elements.
In the following pictures, you will see the footers being formed, poured and finished, and the basement floor being poured,
which happened today and was thrilling, to say the least. It was amazing to see how quickly this floor was poured and with
what precision our crew worked. You will also see the first course of Eco-Block being put up in preparation for the floor.
Once again, our crew is just fabulous!

Once the footers were poured, the basement walls came up quite fast. You can clearly see the outline of the house and
it's beginning to feel like a real space. The walls have been plumbed and we're ready to pour the basemenmt walls on Tuesday,
March 16th. In the following pictures, you'll see the walls being put up with the help of scaffolding and a very skilled and
able crew.

Ladies and gents, I know you've been very patient in waiting for these new pictures! It's starting to look like a house.
I cannot mention enough how fabulous our crew is. Our framing crew, led by Jan Borko, is not only wonderfully talented, but
fearless as well. Our Eco-Block ICF crew, Cotton's Concrete Construction, led by Bill Cotton,(and otherwise known as "the
boys") is an architects dream of perfection. See for yourself.

We just finished pouring the second floor exterior walls and the roof is starting to take shape. We've had an incredible
amount of rain, but that hasn't stopped our crew. I managed to get these pictures on some obviously glorious days. The last
picture in today's entry is just to make you smile.

I know you've all been very patient and I apologize for not posting up that latest pictures. All is coming along
beautifully and everyone is very pleased with the progress. The framing is almost done - we still have to frame the front
porch, but we will soon be able to put on the roofing and the fascia. As soon as the roofing is on, we can install the windows.
Feel free to send in your comments.
